At Themba Lakusasa Secondary School in Vosloorus, the numbers don’t add up. Faced with plummeting matric pass rates, the Department of Education has issued a cold mandate: phase out Mathematics and Science to “improve” the statistics. It’s a move that threatens to gatekeep the future of an entire community.

Standing in the gap is a defiant teacher determined to prove the system wrong. Higher Grade follows his mission to rescue a group of struggling students from a cycle of academic neglect. As he fights to keep these critical subjects on the curriculum, his students must overcome their own insecurities and societal barriers. Together, they aim to turn a failing school into a beacon of excellence, reclaiming their pride and their right to a world-class education.
